Darryl currently rides and trains for several private owners competing across the board from young dressage horse classes through to grand prix. Darryl also  trains dressage horse and riders of all levels.
Darryl does not come from a horsey background and in fact didn't start riding until he was fourteen, and it was only by helping at a private yard nearby where he lived in Sheffield that he first became associated with horses.
It was when he started working after school at the local riding school that the seeds of a dressage career were planted. having left school at sixteen, he was taken on as a working pupil at the riding school and worked towards his BHS exams. At the same time it was decided to close down the riding school and open a livery yard, where quite a few of the clients were interested in dressage. Darryl started to ride some of the horses and was soon competing in BYRDS competitions.
A horse called Fendric was bought in 1999 for Darryl to compete in Young Rider classes and he was selected for the Young Rider Show in Belgium in 2000.
In late 2000 a 5 year old gelding by Demonstrator called Broadstone Director was purchased who Darryl trained and competed up to Inter I level until he was sold to Japan at the end of 2003.
In 2001 a 16.1hh 3 year old chestnut gelding by Gribaldi called Rex came to the yard for Darryl to ride. Rex won the 4 year old Pre-Vac Pro young horse championship in 2002 and in 2003 Darryl n Rex represented GB at the world breeding championships in Germany, Rex is now competing at Small Tour level.
In 2003, Darryl was selected onto the World Class Development Programme.
In 2005, Donnez Moi was purchased, a 16.2hh black stallion by Donnerhall. Darryl trained and competed him from Advanced Medium to Grand Prix until he was sold in early 2008.
In 2007, Darryl had great success with his string of horses including taking six horses to the National Dressage Championships in September.
Believing continuous improvement is essential, Darryl also continues to train and develop his skills with Richard Davison.
